Do any of you know where I could find a free knitting pattern for a sweater, for 18" dolls?
Thanks!

This is no help, but I am working on designing one, and will post results if it works out. So many of the 18" doll knitting patterns are so frumpy!
If anyone else finds some links, I would love to see them.

I love knitting for my dolls. You are right, so many of the sweater patterns are frumpy looking. I used to have a whole bunch of pages bookmarked with free patterns, but I recently lost all of my bookmarks. It would be great if we could all share our free patterns.

OMG! Ana, That sweater you made is just darling...too bad I don't know how to knit OR crochet...I just got a beginner book, so hopefully I can pick it up pretty quickly. I do a lot of embroidery/silk ribbon/hardanger etc., so I hope it isn't too hard for me to figure out. Several people have told me to start with crochet first because it is easier. Do you think that is the case?

Shelly,
I starter with crochet when I was 12 or so, and did not pick up knitting until I was 40 (my mom had "drilled" into my head that I was hopeless... nice lady!)
Now DD (9 in October) is already knitting quite well (including scarves for my mom... should teach her something!)
I pretty much taught myself how to knit and if you are crafty (as you sure sound!) you will be clicking in no time flat!
Holler if you need cheering!

I taught myself how to knit using the videos on http://www.stitchguide.com/ and The complete idiots guide to knitting and crocheting.
The videos help a ton! And it really is very simple once you have the knit and purl stitch down.

I've translated the instructions of the Kipper sweater into English and with the scanned picture and chart for the embroidery can email it to anyone who would like to have it.
The basic sweater is very versatile, I used the pattern for Kirsten's cardigan too.
